Don’t Give Away Your Identity When Selling Mobile Phones

Published by Stephen Roper on Tagged Tips

Recent research has found that more than half of all mobile phones that are sold still contain personal data that could be used to steal someone’s identity.

Many mobile phones are being sold on auction sites such as eBay or other mobile recycling sites.

A sample of mobile phones were checked for the research and it was found that more than 50% contained photographs, private texts, emails or even bank account details and PIN numbers.

Anyone recycling or selling an old mobile phone for re-use should always remove and destroy the SIM card and then check all data has been removed from the handset.

Many mobile and gadget recycling sites including MirrorGoGreen will ensure all personal data is wiped from a mobile phone or other device before they re-sell or refurbish it.
