Earth Day 2009 is on April 22nd and will mark the beginning of the Green Generation Campaign, this initiative will culminate with the 40th anniversary of Earth Day in 2010. The Green Generation are ordinary people like you and me who will engage in activities to improve national and global issues to help make their communities a greener place to live.

Earth Day 2009 will be a day of action to help defend the green generation’s core principles which include:

  • Creation of a new green economy that will help create millions of green jobs around the world
  • An individual’s commitment to responsible consumption
  • A carbon free future that will ends the world’s dependency on fossil fuels including coal.

There are already thousands of events planned in schools, communities, towns and cities around the world for Earth Day 2009.

What is Earth Day?

Earth Day was founded so that people from all races, gender, income and geography have a right to a healthy and greener environment. It Started on April 22nd 1970 with over 20 million people participating. Now it has grown to more than 1 billion people from around the world participating in Earth Day activities making it the largest secular civic event in the world.

Earth Hour – Saturday 28th March 2009

Earth hour is this Saturday 28th 2009 at 8:30pm GMT. The WWF is asking individuals, businesses and governments to turn their lights out for one hour. The purpose of earth hour is to make a global is to make a global statement of concern about climate change and help demonstrate commitment to finding solutions in the future. Earth hour 2009 is expected to reach over 1 billion people in more than 1000 cities around the world.
