Published by Stephen Roper on Tagged Recycling

According to recycling company Envirofone they have collected over 40,000 old mobiles in the last three months alone. Envirofone also said that they have collected just under 24 tonnes of other electronic waste in the same period.

To date Envirofone has paid out well over £6 million to their users and thousands of pounds more are paid out every week. Stuart Fleming, the managing director of Enviroserve the company that oversees Envirofone said that there is an estimated 3 million mobile phones in UK consumer’s homes waiting to be recycled. One person that sent in their old phone last year had another 22 handsets knocking about around their house.

Although Envirofone has recycled a lot of old phones in the past few months it’s still estimated that around the world there could be as many as 1 billion old handsets sat in people’s desks and drawers. Two thirds of the UK population are aware that they can recycle their old phones but still not enough people are actually doing it.

  1. Mr Q Says:

Interesting – Envirofone are blaming Royal Mail for problems in delivering phones, after checking with the royal mail there are no issues with the deliveries in SK11 area. I suggest that Envirofone is about to fold.
