Recycle Your Waste and Unwanted Items After Christmas

Councils around the UK are calling on people to reduce their festive footprints by recycling their waste and unwanted electrical goods after Christmas.

The average family in the UK produces an additional 4 or 5 bags of waste over the Christmas period. That works out to be as much as 30,000 extra tonnes of waste for the whole of the UK.

Its also estimated that 13,350 tonnes of glass will be thrown away this Christmas, these can be recycled to make new bottles and jars or for processed sand for road surfacing. If all 13,350 tonnes were recycled correctly that would save the CO2 equivalent of taking 1300 cars off the road.

Having a good time at Christmas will create much more waste but by recycling your waste either with your rubbish or at your local council recycling centre has never been easier. Unwanted electrical items such as digital cameras, mobile phones, SAT NAVs, laptops, MP3 players and iPods can be recycled online for cash using popular recycling site MirrorGoGreen. By recycling and reducing waste we will all be doing our bit to reduce our carbon footprints and help the environment.
