Three Told to Pull Best Network Advert

Mobile network Three have been told by the Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) that they must pull their regional advert claiming that they are the best network for smartphones and mobile broadband.

The advertising watchdog told Three that they must pull the ad after a single complaint from a member of the public. The person who complained said the advert was misleading as claims to be the best network could not be backed up.

In the advert Three claims that they ‘are better for smartphones’ and that ‘they are rated number 1 for mobile Internet speed and value by smartphone users.” Three said that the claims were based on independent research by market research company, Yougov.

ASA said “We considered that that information should have been made available for the purpose of verifying the comparison and the ad should also therefore have included reference to the means by which that information could be reviewed.”

Three say that they are working with Yougov to try and find a way to make the research available to the public so they can keep the ad live.
